DRAGON'S BLOOD

"In vivo Wound Healing Activity of Dragon's Blood, A Traditional South American Drug, and Its Constituents," Pieters, L., et al, Phytomedicine, 1995;2(1):17-22.

In a rat model, the benefits of Dragon's blood on wound healing was confirmed.  Dragon's blood stimulated the contraction of the wound, formation of a crust, and formation of new collagen and regeneration of the epithelial layer.  Proanthocyanidins are important components in wound healing.

"Brown Sugar to Sweeten Wound Healing," Khan SU, The Clinical Advisor, July/August 2002:66.

Summary:  This anecdotal clinical observation notes that when healing of a gaping wound is delayed, one should obtain wound cultures, then sprinkle brown sugar at the edges and in the center and apply sterile dressing,  Within days, the gap starts to narrow and the wound closes by secondary intention.  This had been a home remedy on the Indian subcontinent for years.

CENTELLA ASIATICA

"Effects of Centella Asiatica Extract on Dermal Wound Healing in Rats", Suguna L., Sivakumar P., Chandrakasan G, Indian ZJ Exp Biol, December 1966;34;1208-1211

Summary: In 3 groups of 6 rats each had an excision wound made on their backs, leaves of Centella Asiatica, which were obtained locally were minced and powdered in absolute ethanol a 1 ml/g and this was filtered through a cotton gauze.  The extract enhanced the cellular proliferation and collagen synthesis at the wound site.  This study showed that Centella Asiatica extract applied topically or orally enhanced wound healing at different phases.

CALENDULA-CONEFLOWER-COMFREY CREAM- From the National Eclectic Manual-

By combining extracts made from the fresh roots or flowers of these three plants with a soothing base, an all-purpose, first-aid cream has been developed to aid the process of healing superficial lesions, wounds, sores, and inflammations.  While relieving discomfort, these vulnerary, antiseptic, and nourishing herbs enhance the immune system's removal of damaged tissue and protect against the development of secondary infections.

GOLDENSEAL-PROPOLIS CREAM- (with Myrrh and Calendula) From the National Eclectic Manual-

Herbs and other natural products contain many useful antiseptic substances that have been used for ages to control microbial growth.  The risk of spreading infection or developing blood sepsis is increased if early steps are not taken to treat an infection locally  Topical creams with antiseptic extracts can also prevent unnecessary complications if used on open wounds before they become infected.

WHITE SAGE-ELDER FLOWER CREAM- (with Chickweed and Calendula) From the National Eclectic Manual-

Extracts of herbs and flowers that improve the symptoms of a local inflammatory reaction and inhibit bacteria growth can aid a wide variety of conditions.  Ordinary dermatitis is typified by the signs of inflammation, pain, redness, swelling, and heat.  In the case of mild chemical or physical irritation only some of these may be present.  Additional symptoms such as crusts forming a serious discharge or purulent ulcerations may occur in allergic reactions or superficial infections.  The extracts of this topical cream can help resolve these conditions while relieving discomfort with their cooling effects

ALOE VERA

" ALOE VERA: Its Chemical and Therapeutic Properties," Shelton RM, Int J Dermatol, October 1991;30(10):679-683.

Summary:  Aloe Vera has been used for burns and cuts, seborrhea dermatitis, sunburn, acne, ulcers, amputation stumps ulcers, lacerations, colds, tuberculosis, gonorrhea, asthma, dysentery,  and headaches.  A 70 per cent concentration of aloe is required for healing and anti-inflammatory effects.

I use a 32:1 concentrate which is considerably stronger and comes as a thick black paste.  I can also compose and manufacture this product.
